I joined our APAC Team last week in (a somewhat smoggy) Singapore for 2013’s key communication and IT event in the region – CommunicAsia 2013.
The show kept us busy for the week, attracting around 35,000 visitors, and the team launched a live demonstration of our integrated IP backhaul and DAS (Distributed Antenna System) solution. We have spent many meetings talking to our customers about how they are forced to install their in-building communication networks, from cellular to wifi, on separate systems and the frustrations this brings them. Not only increasing capital expenditure and operating costs, but also the time and effort it takes to install each of the systems separately.
We listened to the feedback and came up with an innovative solution allowing end users to install wifi access points, small cells, CCTV – anything that requires IP backhaul capability – along with cellular coverage, all on a shared cabling infrastructure over our DAS.
The demo attracted a lot of attention at CommunicAsia and it was clear that in-building coverage is increasingly a priority for mobile operators and end users alike. As well as their customers of course. We all expect to be able to use our mobile phones and tablets whenever we want regardless of location, but with modern building materials shielding signals from outside, operators need to find a way to get their coverage inside too. This trend is only set to continue as consumers become ever more data hungry.
As we hear so often now, LTE was another hot topic at the show, but it is very real in the APAC region with LTE rollouts going on all over. We heard a lot of visitors to our exhibition stand asking about our LTE capabilities and they were pleased to hear that all our products are LTE-ready…a demand we are well prepared for!
And on a lighter note – we hosted a great networking reception at Orgo for our VIP customers and contacts. The cocktails flowed and the view was great…even in the smog!
We’ll be back again next year and have already started to plan our bigger and better exhibition stand.
